The lake arising as a consequence to building a dam in the Vidra Gorge, a unique hydrographic construction of this kind because it is formed by rock fill (not concrete). This dam is the main structure of the hydrographic development on the Lotru River. The huge lake is home to a large number of aquatic creatures including the grayling, the native trout and the rainbow trout (a big attraction for fishermen). The access is possible through the fascinating mountain trails or many roads, but the most circulated route is that of Brezoi by Voineasa (DN 7 A).
